Alicia, thanks for sharing this story. I've never heard Wilberforce's full story. So this is lovely. What always strikes me whenever I'm reading a summary of someone's past work, is how easily I get into the 'stacked' perception---where everything seems to happen in short amounts of time and in rapid succession (which gives the illusion that their contribution is extremely easy, and their challenges are localized). It's a great reminder of the wonders that time can do. :)
That puts a smile on my face to hear! Thank you for sharing that reflection! <3 <3 <3 I love Wilburforce's commitment over time too, as well as his willingness to take an unorthodox approach to getting around the bureaucratic commitments to atrocities that are economically beneficial to legislatures and their biggest patrons/influencers. I wonder what "riders" we might put on bills today that would contribute to freedom and flourishing for all - or what might be called Sovereign Harmony....if you've read any of my posts on the doctrine of Christian discovery you'll find that if that one linchpin were undone, colonialism could have an end much as Wilburforce ended the African slave trade in England, which was birthed from the papal bulls from the 15th century that then became legal precedent in 1823, in spite of having no basis other than racism and supremacy. <3
Beautiful and inspirational ❤️
Thank you ~ just like you <3
