Once, when my husband was in in med school, the Dean, or some such person called him in to ask him about his clinical interests. When my husband said he was interested in natural medicine, the deal said, “No one is going to fund something you can grow in your backyard.”
As it turns out, the Dean was mistaken: there is actually a huge industry aimed at turning nature into biotech. And therein lies the beauty and the catch: their is a plethora of research, but it is all geared toward making natural sources of highly potent plants, algae and fungi less accessible and more privatized and licensed to biotech and Pharma companies to use, process and often, manipulate in unnatural ways.

What would it look like if those who care about genuine health were as shrewd as those who care only about genuine profit? Today at dinner, my family and I were talking about what it would like if the only shareholders allowed were those who live in the communities most impacted by a company…and if the bottom line were first the priority of safety and benefit to the constituents/customers/users, the community and the world…and if any profits were made beyond paying people well, the community of shareholders would decide how to reinvest them, only pocketing truly ethical bonuses rather than profits.
What if the brave and the shrewd helped save the way so that the intelligent and the diligent could work in peace and in harmony to birth authentic solutions that resonate with genuine integrity, whether in their lab research and their work on everything from paradigms of wellness and healthcare to birthing contexts where both freedom and kindness can flourish, both on and offline? What if courage was supported by diligence rather than recklessness and spontaneity was born of inspiration that transcends all that houses of the Harry Potter world?
What if Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were working together to birth and build the infrastructure for a world where all are free, yet in an energy that is arising from unity? What if Gryffindors are the Joan of Arcs riding for our sovereignty, not in bloodthirsty war, but as warriors of Truth, anchored in the mysteries of the Magdalenes? What if Slytherins used their shrewdness in service of a pure heart to undermine dark agendas, just as Jesus taught us to be gentle as doves, shrewd as serpents? What if we threw away the idea of putting people in houses by personality at all and used our strengths to work together creatively to facilitate a world where all can prosper in peace, harmony, abundance for all and genuine freedom rooted in unity - so that freedom would not be abused, nor would conformity be expected or coerced? What if we all have these strengths inside us, in varying forms and degrees, much like we all have feminine and masculine aspects, regardless of our gender?
