I first learned that storms are sentient, and that they can be worked with benevolently from a fellow who was my shaman years ago. One day on a trip an hour or so outside of our usual zone, one of my children mentioned she wished there were a big thunderstorm. The skies were utterly blue, but within minutes, we spotted an incredibly dense bank of clouds ahead. As we got closer, it became very intense and we looked for a place to get off the road as it began to be brown and gusty with hail. Meanwhile, I texted my shaman on Facebook - back when I was on that platform - and asked for some help. “Just give me a couple of minutes,” he said. And sure enough, just as we took an exit toward a fast food stop, suddenly everything cleared and a double rainbow appeared as we pulled into the Culver’s parking lot. In that case, the storm had gotten lost and was not where it was supposed to be…so my shaman had worked with it to help guide it back on course. I asked him how he did it. He said, “With gentleness and great respect.”

Today, our internet went off again, so I went to the coffee shop to go online, while my husband did an errand. When I walked out of the shop, I saw that, again, the sky was filled with various swirling art that, while beautiful in a way, was also not natural. The seeds had begun last night. But I reminded myself, the nature of the water and all the molecules is love. I asked them to express as that love, and again reminded them of their freedom to move away from where they might cause harm.
