Rose Bushes & Newsweek
Some lovely nature observations and what I learned about the news outlet
The resilient rose bush is seated next to the illustrious garlic greens, with a dandelion leaf reaching toward one of many baby motherwort leaves. I also I counted fourteen baby milkweeds in the back, while the front has shown me the very beginnings of some baby cosmos I haven’t photographed yet, while saplings of of our big flowering tree (species a mystery to me - when she blooms I’ll post it and you can tell me if you know,) are flourishing, and magnolias, storm worn, shed leaves with grace and continue to badass-bloom even with tears and brown spots here and there, with some late bloomers having wisely waited to show their full colors of spring.
My husband, son and I took a picnic to the lake and saw baby crows behaving hilariously: they were looking up, mouths opening as if they expected any moment to have a worm drop from their mother flying above. Then, tired of waiting, perhaps, they began to get into kerfuffles with each other, flying in duels with daring baby crow acrobatics.
Above us a red wing black bird felt territorial and let us know it, while in the distance, an eagle careened peacefully, unfettered by any of us.
I realized I didn’t know about the ownership of Time and Newsweek, so I looked them up. Then I added Atlantic to the list and looked it up. I expect all corporate media to be co-opted. In fact, I expect all media, including all alternative media with significant followings to be co-opted. It’s not that I’m cynical or even smart. It’s just that I am a person who cannot help asking, “Why?” and looking beneath the surface of things if something doesn’t add up, or just for the wild heck of it when I’’m curious, or when I have a feeling like something is off.
I didn’t expect to find a deep rabbit hole at — or at least not one whose entrance is immediately visible. Of course Etienne did no jail time and Olivet is still operating under a religious exemption in some places.

The Current Owners are continually suing each other. Both are former members of a Christian cult sect, where according to Christianity Today, someone thought the leader, Jang, was God and prayed to him instead of Jesus. That sect/cult that runs a school called Olivet that was convicted of felonies related to conspiracy, fraud and human trafficking. One of the owner’s wives was a former President of Olivet. If you look for the actual court docs you get a page not found.

P.S. If you’re wondering about Time, it’s owned by Marc Benioff. The Atlantic is owned by the widow of Steve Jobs, Laurene Powell Jobs.
As for those newspapers that seem local - either city or state-like? Well, like all news outlets with conflicts of interest they claim their editors operate completely independently. But why would would Morgan horses, the Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree family with the ice skating rink named after them, the man with the sach of gold and the van that’s always on its guard invest in a non-profit that delivers news in all 50 states if they didn’t think they could influence? Listed alphabetically this non profit room for news in every state, you might not notice those big names. And how many others on that list have agendas but they’re just not as famous?
