What a joy it was to eat violets from the yard yesterday, and today, to watch a little sparrow bounce upon the magnolia I planted a few years ago, which is now fully in adolescence and proudly blossoming as it glows up and offers its lessons in full expression without attachment to permanence. Magnolias remind me of lotuses as well as cherry blossoms and they are one of my favorite parts of spring. So too are the buds, and the “firsts” of everything, and then the explosion of, “another one” and “oh, there’s another!”
The echinacea has started showing its feathery reddish green hair, like a teenager just awakening from a winter’s sleep. Tiny maples are growing up from an old stump.
Clusters of lemon balm are touting their unique textured leaves and zesty scents.
The bees are here in full force, buzzing around. The neighbors have probably heard me squealing in delight, as I do talk to the bees outloud as my beloved friends. They have groundholes right beneath my feet, oddly enough, as I saw one dive into a bee size hold between the wooden pieces - little slats connected by rubbing tubes - that form the portable path that serpentines down my front yard, if you can call it that.
The treetops are in that wondrous phase where buds have begun to leaf out but they are still these adorable, miraculous babies, while little red wings dangle from the maples - the brightest red I’ve seen on any maple, any year. And when they fall, it reminds us who we are, because they are wings, in almost the exact pattern of a dragonfly wing- yet they are designed for descent. And the descent is designed for rising. Can you imagine yourself as having been given wings to soften your descent, to allow you to joyously plant, yet those wings were planned all along to help you rise?
You are the tree of life. You are here to root, thrive and flourish, with sweet sap running through you as your reach for the sky above, receive the sunlight and give nurturance to other beings through your natural maturation and growth!
May you flourish. May you root. May you thrive. May you be in wonder at how so much in life shares universal principles - like wings, whether meant to soften the descent, or assist the rise back up to meet the sky, the sun, the heavens above, and bring that light back down to earth again.
You are here to be the Tree of Life.
Love to you in, the descent and ascent of your soul.
